Frequently Asked Questions
Can I run my central heating solely off a wood burner?
Yes, provided the kW output to water is sufficient. For a typical 3-bedroom semi-detached home, you would likely need a stove with a 10kW-15kW water output rating to maintain comfort during peak winter.
What fuel gives the best BTU for my radiators?
For radiator stoves, we recommend a mix of well-seasoned hardwood (moisture content below 20%) and high-quality smokeless mineral fuels. Hardwood provides the flames for radiant room heat, while smokeless fuel provides a consistent, high-temperature ember bed to keep the back boiler water hot for hours.
Will a radiator stove work with modern Aluminium Radiators?
While they will work, we highly recommend pairing them with Cast Iron Radiators. Cast iron acts as a "thermal store," absorbing the high-intensity heat of the stove and releasing it slowly, which prevents the rapid temperature fluctuations common with thin-walled aluminium or steel radiators.
