Frequently Asked Questions

Which cast iron radiator is best for a tight budget?

The Victoriana range is our best option. It is a simple, classic design that costs less to make than fancy patterns. If you are looking for the cast iron cheapest option that still looks amazing, this is the one to choose.

Where can I find cheap cast iron radiators that are good quality?

You are in the right place! We sell cheap cast iron radiators that are built to last. We keep prices low by selling directly to you, so you don't pay extra for a showroom. You get high quality without the high price.

Do you sell used cast iron radiators?

No, we only sell brand new ones. Buying used cast iron radiators can be risky because they might have hidden cracks or rust inside. Our new radiators look just like the old ones but come with a guarantee and no leaks.

Why are your radiators better than old radiators?

Old radiators found in salvage yards often have worn-out seals that leak water. Our radiators are made with modern technology but keep the classic style. They are clean inside and safe to use in any home.

Are these real iron or just a cast iron style radiator?

These are the real deal! A cast iron style radiator is usually made of light steel painted to look like iron. Ours are made of solid, heavy cast iron, just like they were 100 years ago.

Do you have electric options?

Yes! If you don't have pipes in a room, you can buy a cast iron radiator heater that plugs into the wall. It looks exactly like a normal radiator but uses electricity to get hot.

Do you sell antique radiators?

We sell "reproduction" radiators. This means they are brand new but made from the same moulds as antique radiators. You get the beautiful vintage look without the rust and problems of a 100-year-old item.

Which model looks most like old cast iron radiators?

The Victoriana and Saint Paul models look exactly like the old cast iron radiators you see in schools and churches. They are perfect for restoring old houses.

Are vintage cast iron radiators expensive to run?

Not really. Vintage cast iron radiators hold heat for a long time. This means your boiler can turn off, but the radiator stays hot for hours, which can actually help save energy.

My radiator arrived in two pieces. Is it broken?

No, it is safe! A large cast iron radiator is too heavy to ship in one piece. We send it in two parts. You just use a "Joining Tool" to screw them together. It is very easy to do.

Do I need special tools to install them?

If your radiator comes in two parts, you need a Joining Tool. You will also need a strong friend! Even a small cast iron radiator is very heavy, so do not try to lift it alone.

Can I install these in a modern house?

Yes! You don't need an old house to have one. A cast iron radiator heater works with modern gas boilers and heat pumps. It connects to your pipes just like a white steel radiator.

Do I need wall stays?

Yes. Because they are tall and heavy, they can tip over if bumped. A wall stay is a small metal arm that ties the radiator to the wall to keep it safe.

Can I paint the radiator myself?

Yes. You can buy our radiators in a "Primer" finish (grey or black). This is the iron cheapest way to buy. You can then paint it any colour you like using heat-resistant spray paint.

What valves do I need?

We recommend "Thermostatic Valves" (TRVs). They let you control the temperature. We have brass and chrome ones that look great with vintage cast iron radiators.

Why is my radiator cold at the top?

This usually means air is trapped inside. You need to "bleed" the radiator. Use a radiator key to open the little vent at the top until you hear a hiss. When water comes out, close it.

Do cast iron radiators rust?

Iron can rust if it gets wet. To stop this, your plumber must put a special fluid called "inhibitor" in the water. This protects the inside of the cast iron radiator for years.

Why does it take so long to get hot?

Cast iron is thick and heavy. It takes longer to warm up than thin steel old radiators, but the good news is it stays hot for much longer after you turn the heating off.

Is it safe for children?

The surface gets very hot, just like any radiator. Because they hold heat so well, they stay hot for a long time. Always be careful with toddlers nearby, or use a radiator cover.

Will it leak?

Our radiators are pressure tested to make sure they don't leak. Used cast iron radiators often leak because the gaskets are old, but ours use brand new seals that last for decades.

Do you have radiators with flowers on them?

Yes, models like the Tuscany and Daisy have beautiful floral patterns. They look like expensive antique radiators but are brand new and ready to install.

How do I pick the right size?

You need to know how much heat your room needs. We have a calculator on our website. Don't guess! A small cast iron radiator heater might not be strong enough for a big room.

Can I get a specific colour?

Yes! We can paint them in over 10,000 colours, including Farrow & Ball shades. Or, for a bargain, buy it in primer and paint it yourself.

What is the difference between 2 column and 4 column?

Columns are the thickness of the radiator. A 4-column radiator is fat and gives out a lot of heat. A 2-column radiator is skinny and fits in narrow hallways.

Why should I buy from Budget Radiators?

We offer the best mix of quality and price. Whether you want cheap cast iron radiators or fancy custom colours, we check every single section to make sure it is perfect before we send it to you.
