Frequently Asked Questions

What are classic column radiators?

Classic column radiators are heaters made of vertical tubes connected together. They look like old-fashioned radiators from the Victorian era but are made with modern materials. They are great for adding a traditional style to your home while keeping it warm.

Why are your Own Brand radiators cheaper?

Our Budget Direct Own Brand radiators are cheaper because we make them ourselves and sell them directly to you. This cuts out the middleman so you get high quality heating at a much lower price.

What is the difference between 2 column and 3 column radiators?

The difference is the thickness. A 2 column radiator has two rows of tubes and is slimmer, which is perfect for narrow hallways. A 3 column radiator has three rows, is thicker, and gives out more heat, making it better for larger living rooms.

Are these radiators made of cast iron or steel?

These are made of high quality heavy gauge steel. Steel is much lighter than cast iron and heats up much faster. This helps you save money on energy bills because your room gets warm quickly.

How do I know which size radiator I need?

You should use our free BTU Calculator to find the right size. You just need to measure your room length, width, and height. The calculator will tell you the exact heat output you need so you do not buy a radiator that is too small.

Do these radiators come with valves?

No, valves are sold separately. This is because every home is different. You might need Angled Valves if your pipes come from the floor or Corner Valves if your pipes come from the wall.

Can I hang these radiators on the wall?

Yes, you can. Because they are made of steel, they are lighter than cast iron. We include strong wall brackets with every radiator so you can mount them safely on most standard walls.

Do I need to buy radiator feet?

You only need feet if your walls are weak or if you want the traditional floor standing look. Slip on feet are available as an accessory to support the weight of the radiator on the floor.

What colors are available?

We offer beautiful finishes to match your decor. The most popular choices are Brilliant White for a clean look and Textured Anthracite for a modern and bold style. We also have Chrome options.

How long is the warranty?

We offer a massive 10 Year Guarantee on all our Own Brand Classic Column Radiators. We are very confident in their quality and durability so you can have total peace of mind.

Why is the top of my radiator cold?

If the bottom is hot but the top is cold, air is trapped inside. You need to bleed the radiator. Use a radiator key to open the small valve at the top until water comes out, then close it.

Are column radiators hard to clean?

No, they are easy to clean. You can use a long radiator brush to dust between the columns. It is best to do this when the radiator is cold so the dust does not blow around the room.

Do you deliver to my area?

We offer Free Delivery to most UK mainland addresses. We aim to get your new radiator to you quickly and safely so you can start your installation project without delay.

Can I use these in a bathroom?

Yes, these radiators look great in bathrooms. However, for very small bathrooms, you might prefer a towel rail. If you use a column radiator, make sure it is not directly splashed with water constantly.

What are Thermostatic Radiator Valves?

Thermostatic Radiator Valves, or TRVs, let you control the temperature of a single radiator. You can turn the heat down in a room you are not using to save energy and money.

Is a horizontal or vertical radiator better?

Both work well. Horizontal radiators fit nicely under windows. Vertical column radiators are tall and thin, which saves floor space in small rooms or kitchens with lots of cabinets.

Will these radiators work with my existing central heating?

Yes, our steel column radiators are designed to work perfectly with standard UK central heating systems. You just need to swap your old radiator for the new one.

What is BTU?

BTU stands for British Thermal Unit. It is just a way to measure heat. A higher BTU number means the radiator gives out more heat. Larger rooms need radiators with a higher BTU rating.

Do you include wall stays?

Wall stays are metal arms that tie the radiator to the wall for safety. They are essential if you use feet, to stop the radiator from tipping over. You can buy them separately in our accessories section.
