Frequently Asked Questions

What is a convector radiator?

A convector radiator is a smart heater for your home. Unlike old radiators that just get hot, these have metal "fins" hidden inside. These fins heat up the air very fast. The hot air rises and spreads around your room quickly to keep you warm.

What are the zigzag metal bits inside my radiator?

Those zigzag sheets are called convector fins. Think of them like a turbo boost. They create a huge surface area to grab cold air and turn it into warm air. This helps a small panel radiator heat a big room.

What is the difference between Type 21 and Type 22 radiators?

It is all about how thick and hot they are. A Type 21 radiator has two panels but only one set of fins inside. A Type 22 radiator has two panels and two sets of fins. Type 22 is thicker and gives out much more heat.

Why should I choose a mild steel radiator?

Mild steel is the best material for value. It heats up very fast, so you don't have to wait long for warmth. It is also cheaper to buy than cast iron or aluminum. It is strong, lasts a long time, and helps keep energy bills down.

Will a new radiator save me money on energy bills?

Yes, it can. Old radiators are often full of sludge and work slowly. New models, like the Faraday Eco, heat up quickly and use less gas to get hot. This means your boiler works less, which can lower your monthly bills.

What does BTU mean?

BTU stands for British Thermal Unit. It is just a score for heat. A high BTU number means the radiator is very powerful. A low BTU number means it is for a small room. Always check the BTU before you buy!

Are Reina Slimline radiators good for small rooms?

Yes! The Reina Slimline is a flat panel radiator. It is very thin and sits close to the wall. This makes it perfect for narrow hallways or small bedrooms where you need space but still want plenty of heat.

Why is my radiator cold at the top?

This usually means air is trapped inside. The hot water cannot fill the top part because the air is in the way. You need to "bleed" the radiator with a key to let the air hiss out. It is an easy fix!

Why is my radiator cold at the bottom?

This is often caused by "sludge." Sludge is dirty, rusty water that sinks to the bottom and blocks the heat. You might need a cleaner to flush it out so your central heating works properly again.

What is a Type 11 radiator?

A Type 11 is a "single convector." It has just one front panel and one set of fins on the back. It is the thinnest type we sell. It is great for bathrooms or cloakrooms where you don't need huge amounts of heat.

Do these radiators work with electric heating?

Most of our panel radiators, like the Faraday Eco, are designed for central heating (water pipes). However, we do sell specific electric versions. Always check the description to see if it plugs in or needs pipes.

How do I choose the right size radiator?

Don't guess! Measure your room first. A big room needs a high BTU score. If you pick a radiator that is too small, the room will never get warm. If it is too big, you waste money. Use a calculator to be sure.

Why does my radiator smell when I turn it on?

This is usually burning dust. Dust gathers inside the convector fins during summer. When the heat comes on in winter, that dust gets hot and smells. Cleaning the dust out with a long brush usually fixes it.

Can I install a radiator myself?

You can hang it on the wall, but connecting the water pipes can be tricky. If you get it wrong, you might have a leak. We recommend hiring a professional to install your Budget Radiators safely.

What is balancing radiators?

Balancing radiators means adjusting the valves so hot water goes to every room evenly. Without balancing, the radiators near the boiler might get very hot, while the ones far away stay cold.

Are modern panel radiators better than cast iron?

For most homes, yes. Cast iron looks nice but takes a long time to heat up. Modern mild steel panels heat up in minutes. They give you heat exactly when you need it, which fits modern life better.

Do convector radiators affect allergies?

They move air around to heat the room, which can sometimes move dust too. To help with allergies, clean the convector fins regularly. Keeping the inside of the radiator clean stops dust from blowing around.

What is the Faraday Eco radiator?

The Faraday Eco is a modern radiator built for efficiency. It is designed to work well even with lower water temperatures, making it a great choice if you want to be eco-friendly and save energy.

How long is the guarantee on these radiators?

We trust our quality. Many of our products, including the Reina Slimline and Faraday ranges, come with a 10-year guarantee. This gives you peace of mind that your heating is built to last.

My radiator is making a clicking noise, is it broken?

Don't worry, it is likely fine! Metal expands when it gets hot and shrinks when it cools. That "clicking" or "ticking" sound is just the mild steel moving slightly. It is normal for new radiators.
