Frequently Asked Questions
What actually is a radiator column?
It is a classic style of heater made of tubes (columns) lined up in a row. Unlike flat panels, radiator column designs have gaps that let air flow through, helping to warm your room evenly from floor to ceiling.
Do you sell a black column radiator?
Yes! A black column radiator is very trendy right now. It looks great in modern homes and hides dust better than white ones. It is perfect if you want that "industrial" look.
Do you have a white column radiator for a classic look?
Absolutely. A white column radiator is our most popular choice. It blends in perfectly with light walls and looks clean and tidy in any room, from the hallway to the bedroom.
Do you stock traditional column radiators?
Yes, our Cornel range are traditional column radiators. They look just like the old-fashioned heavy iron ones you see in castles, but they are made of steel so they heat up much faster.
What is the difference between horizontal and vertical column radiators?
Horizontal ones are wide and go under windows. Vertical column radiators are tall and skinny. They act like a chimney to shoot heat up high, which is perfect if you don't have much wall space.
Why should I buy a 2 column radiator?
Think of a sandwich. 2 column radiators are like a thin sandwich. They are skinny and don't stick out far from the wall, making them perfect for narrow hallways where you don't want to trip.
When do I need a 3 column radiator?
A 3 column radiator is the "Goldilocks" size
Why would I choose 4 column radiators?
4 column radiators are the heavyweights! They are thick (like a double-decker sandwich). You use these in big, cold rooms with high ceilings where you need maximum heat power.
How do I choose the right size column vertical radiators?
Don't guess! Use our Heating Calculator. You measure your room, and it tells you how much heat you need. Column vertical radiators are powerful, so you might need a smaller one than you think.
How does an electric column radiator work?
An electric column radiator (like our Hornby range) plugs straight into a wall socket. You don't need a plumber or a boiler. They are perfect for garden rooms or conservatories that don't have water pipes.
Are you better than Screwfix column radiators?
While Screwfix column radiators are good for a quick fix, we offer a huge 10-year warranty and specialist colors like Anthracite and Raw Metal that you can't always find in big hardware stores.
How do you compare to Stelrad column radiators?
Stelrad column radiators are a famous brand, but our Cornel range offers the same high heating power and classic style, often at a better price for homeowners on a budget.
Why choose Budget Radiators over Column Radiators 4 u?
If you are looking for column radiators 4 u (for yourself), we offer specialized "kerbside delivery" and a dedicated expert team to help you check your pipe measurements before you buy, so you don't make a mistake.
Do you deliver column radiators UK wide?
Yes, we ship column radiators UK wide! whether you are in London or Leeds. Just remember, these radiators are heavy, so our drivers deliver to your kerbside (outside your house).
Are radiators column radiators efficient?
Yes. Because radiators column radiators have lots of surface area (front, back, and between the tubes), they are brilliant at holding onto heat and keeping your room warm even after the boiler turns off.
My radiator is cold at the top, is it broken?
No, it usually just has air trapped inside. You need to "bleed" it with a radiator key. This lets the air out so the hot water can fill it up to the top again.
Can I put a column radiator on a plasterboard wall?
Be careful! These radiators are heavy. You must find the wooden "studs" inside the wall to screw it into. If you can't find them, we sell "wall stays" or feet to help support the weight on the floor.
Which valves do I need?
If your pipes come out of the floor, you need Straight Valves. If your pipes come out of the wall, you usually need Angled Valves or Corner Valves to make it look neat.
Why is the bottom of my radiator cold?
This might be "sludge" (dirty mud inside the pipes). It sinks to the bottom and stops the hot water from getting there. You might need a plumber to flush it out.
Can I paint my radiator later?
We don't recommend it. Our radiators come with a tough, baked-on finish. Painting over it with normal paint might make it peel or smell when it gets hot. It is better to buy the right color (like black or anthracite) to start with!
