Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Reina Colona steel column radiator?
A Reina Colona radiator is a modern heater designed to look like a vintage Victorian style radiator. It is made from high quality steel instead of heavy cast iron. This makes it lighter, cheaper, and faster to heat up while still giving your room a classic traditional look.
Why should I choose steel column radiators over cast iron?
Steel column radiators are much more responsive than cast iron. This means they heat up very quickly when you turn your heating on. They are also lighter to install and often cost less money, making them a great choice for budget conscious homeowners who want style.
What is the difference between 2 column and 3 column radiators?
The difference is the depth or thickness of the radiator. A 2 column radiator is slimmer and fits well in narrow hallways. A 3 column radiator is thicker and has an extra layer of tubes, which means it gives out more heat. Choose 3 column or 4 column models for larger living rooms.
How do I know which size radiator to buy for my room?
You should not guess the size. You need to use a BTU calculator. BTU stands for British Thermal Unit and it measures heat energy. By measuring your room length, width, and height, the calculator tells you the exact BTU number required to keep that space warm.
What does the Lacquered Bare Metal finish look like?
The Lacquered Bare Metal finish is a very popular industrial style. It is not painted with a color. Instead, it shows the raw dark grey steel material underneath a clear protective coating. Every radiator looks slightly different and unique because you can see the natural weld marks and metal texture.
Do Reina Colona radiators come with valves included?
No, these radiators do not come with valves. You must buy radiator valves separately. This is because every home has different pipework. You can choose from our wide range of traditional valves or modern valves to match your specific style and pipe connection.
Which radiator valves do I need for my pipes?
If your pipes come out of the floor, you need Angled Valves. If your pipes come out of the wall, you need Corner Valves. If your pipes run along the wall, you need Straight Valves. Checking your pipe direction before ordering saves you time and hassle.
Are these radiators compatible with my central heating system?
Yes, Reina Colona steel column radiators are designed to work with standard UK central heating systems. You can swap your old white panel radiator for a stylish column radiator easily, as long as the pipe centers match or you adjust the pipework.
How heavy are Reina Colona radiators?
While they are lighter than cast iron, they are still quite solid and heavy compared to cheap aluminum radiators. Always check the weight listed in the product description. For very large or 4 column models, we recommend having two people available to help lift and install them safely.
Do I need wall stays for my column radiator?
Wall stays are metal arms that secure the radiator to the wall to stop it from tipping. We highly recommend using wall stays for tall vertical radiators or heavy 4 column models. They add extra safety, especially if you have children or pets running around the house.
Can I mount these radiators on a plasterboard wall?
Mounting heavy radiators on plasterboard or drywall can be risky because the wall is not strong enough to hold the weight. You should try to find the wooden studs behind the plasterboard. If you cannot find studs, we suggest using radiator feet to support the weight on the floor instead of the wall.
What are radiator feet and when should I use them?
Radiator feet are supports that sit on the floor. You slide them onto the bottom of the column radiator. They take the heavy weight of the radiator off the wall. They are a great problem solving solution for weak walls and they also add to the authentic traditional appearance.
How do I clean inside the columns of the radiator?
Dust can get trapped between the columns. To clean it, turn the heating off and let it cool down. Use a hairdryer to blow the dust out from the middle, or buy a long radiator brush. Wipe the outside with a soft damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemical cleaners as they might damage the paint or lacquer.
Is the white finish a bright white or cream?
The standard white finish on Reina Colona radiators is typically a bright, crisp white that matches most modern skirting boards and window frames. It is a powder coated finish that is tough and easy to wipe clean. It is not a cream or off white color.
Does the Reina Colona range come with a guarantee?
Yes, we offer a 10 year manufacturer guarantee on the Reina Colona range. This gives you peace of mind that the product is free from manufacturing defects and leaks. It is a sign of high quality construction and durability.
What is the benefit of a vertical column radiator?
Vertical radiators are tall and thin. They are excellent for rooms where you do not have much horizontal wall space, like a kitchen with lots of cabinets. They use the height of the wall to generate heat without taking up valuable floor space.
Can I get these radiators in colors other than white?
Yes, besides the standard White and Anthracite Grey, we offer custom color options. You can choose from many RAL colors to match your interior design perfectly. Please note that custom painted radiators may take a little longer to deliver than stock items.
How efficient are these radiators for heating?
These radiators are very efficient because the column design has a large surface area. This allows air to circulate between the tubes, warming up the room evenly. Because they are made of steel, they hold heat well but also respond quickly when the thermostat is adjusted.
What happens if my radiator arrives damaged?
We take great care in packaging our products. However, if you notice any damage upon delivery, please contact our customer service team immediately. Do not install a damaged radiator. We will help resolve the issue and arrange a replacement if necessary.
Why is my radiator cold at the top but hot at the bottom?
This is a common problem caused by trapped air inside the system. It does not mean the radiator is broken. You need to bleed the radiator using a radiator key. Open the small bleed valve at the top until the hissing air stops and water starts to come out, then close it tight.
