Black Granite Curved Stove Hearth 750 x 900mm – Premium Stoves Hearth for Wood Burners & Multifuel Stoves
Lay the foundation for a truly spectacular fireplace installation. The Black Granite Curved Stove Hearth 750 x 900mm is a precision-cut slab of Absolute Black granite — one of the densest, most heat-resistant natural stones available — designed specifically to satisfy UK Building Regulations for solid fuel appliances and deliver a visually striking centrepiece beneath any wood burning or multifuel stove. At 40mm thick with a finely chamfered top edge, it combines serious structural integrity with refined, contemporary elegance.
Why Absolute Black Granite is the Premier Choice for Stove Hearths
Not all stone is created equal when it comes to heat exposure. Absolute Black granite — quarried primarily in South India — is a fine-grained, dense igneous rock with an extremely low porosity and a very high melting point, making it one of the most thermally stable natural materials you can place beneath a working stove. Unlike cheaper alternatives such as limestone, sandstone, or low-grade slate, Absolute Black granite will not crack, spall, discolour, or absorb moisture over decades of use. Its deep, uniform jet-black colouration is completely natural — no dyes, no coatings — and retains its depth of colour without sealing or special maintenance under normal conditions.
- Exceptional thermal mass – absorbs and retains heat safely without structural compromise
- Non-combustible – fully compliant with Building Regulations Approved Document J
- Zero porosity – will not absorb ash, debris, or moisture from the hearth zone
- Absolute Black shade – a deep, uniform colour that coordinates with every stove finish from matt black to coloured enamel
Building Regulations Compliant – Ready-to-Fit Stove Hearth Slab
UK Building Regulations (Approved Document J) require a non-combustible, free-standing constructional hearth beneath any solid fuel appliance, extending a minimum of 840mm in front of the stove door and 150mm beyond each side. At 750mm deep x 900mm wide, this hearth slab is specifically dimensioned to meet or exceed these requirements for most 5kW class stoves, including the Carron ECO 5kW SE and similar appliances. The 40mm thickness also exceeds the minimum 12mm superimposed hearth requirement, making it suitable as a standalone decorative superimposed hearth layer on top of an existing compliant constructional hearth. Always confirm compliance with your HETAS-registered installer, who will assess your specific installation conditions.
Curved Profile & Chamfered Edge – Design Details That Elevate Any Interior
The distinctive curved front profile of this hearth slab departs from the rigid rectangular outlines of standard pre-cast or porcelain hearth pads. The gentle bow to the leading edge creates a softer, more organic visual line that suits traditional and heritage interiors — Victorian, Georgian, Arts & Crafts, and country house aesthetics — whilst remaining versatile enough for transitional and contemporary schemes where contrast between natural stone and clean-lined cabinetry is desirable. The chamfered top edge adds a bevelled refinement that catches the light, preventing the slab from appearing flat and heavy. This single design detail transforms a functional safety component into an architectural feature in its own right.

Installation Overview – How to Lay a Granite Stove Hearth Correctly
Installing a granite hearth slab correctly is fundamental to both Building Regulations compliance and the long-term appearance of the finished installation. This slab functions as a superimposed hearth — the decorative upper layer — and must be laid onto a constructional hearth (typically at least 125mm of non-combustible concrete) that already exists beneath the floor or has been purpose-built. The granite slab should be bedded onto a full mortar bed or specialist stone adhesive to eliminate any hollow spots that could lead to cracking under the weight of the stove. It is critical that no combustible material (timber floorboards, chipboard, adhesive foam) sits beneath or contacts the edges of the hearth. The stove should only be positioned on the hearth after the bedding compound has fully cured — typically 24–48 hours. Sealing the granite surface is optional but recommended for ease of cleaning in high-ash environments: use a penetrating, colour-enhancing granite sealer applied annually.
Compatible Stoves – Pairing the Hearth with the Right Wood Burning or Multifuel Stove
This hearth has been designed to complement the Carron ECO 5kW SE wood burning and multifuel stoves range, which measure 480mm wide x 350mm deep at the base. At 900mm wide and 750mm deep, the hearth provides generous clearance on all sides — far exceeding the minimum regulatory projections — and frames the stove beautifully without crowding. The Absolute Black finish pairs naturally with matt black stove bodies and creates striking contrast beneath coloured enamel finishes including sage green, cream, red, and ash grey. If your stove's base footprint differs, verify that the hearth dimensions provide the mandatory 150mm side clearance and 840mm front projection from the stove's door opening before purchasing.
Cleaning & Long-Term Care of Your Granite Stove Hearth
Black granite is one of the most low-maintenance natural stone surfaces available. Under normal stove use, the daily care routine is simply to brush or vacuum ash from the hearth surface once the stove has cooled completely, and occasionally wipe with a damp cloth. Avoid acidic cleaners (vinegar, citric-based products) as these can dull the polished surface over time. For stubborn carbon deposits or grease marks from fire-lighting materials, a pH-neutral stone cleaner applied with a soft cloth will restore the surface without damage. The chamfered edge profile is slightly more vulnerable to chipping from direct impact than a rounded bullnose edge — take care when moving logs or heavy accessories near the hearth perimeter. With minimal attention, an Absolute Black granite hearth will retain its appearance for the lifetime of the property.
