Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Borda vertical column radiator?
The Borda is a tall and narrow heater made of steel tubes standing upright. It is designed to save floor space while making your room look modern and stylish. It works just like a normal radiator but looks much better.
Why should I choose a vertical radiator over a normal one?
You should choose a vertical radiator if you have limited wall space. Because it stands up tall like a tower it fits on narrow walls where a wide horizontal radiator would not fit. It is perfect for making more room for furniture.
Does the Borda radiator give out enough heat?
Yes it gives out a lot of heat. The steel columns have a large surface area which helps warm up the air in your room very quickly. We use a measurement called BTU to show how powerful it is so you can be sure you will be warm.
What is the difference between 2 column and 3 column models?
The difference is the thickness. A 2 column radiator has two rows of tubes and is slimmer so it sticks out less from the wall. A 3 column radiator has three rows of tubes which makes it deeper and more powerful so it heats larger rooms better.
What colours does the Borda radiator come in?
You can buy the Borda in several amazing finishes. The most popular are White for a clean look Anthracite which is a cool dark grey and Black for a bold modern style. These colours help the radiator match your room decoration.
Will this radiator fit in my small kitchen?
Yes it is perfect for kitchens. Kitchens often have cupboards taking up all the wall space. The Borda is narrow enough to fit on the small strip of wall behind a door or next to the fridge to keep your kitchen cozy without getting in the way.
Do I need to buy special valves for this radiator?
Yes you usually need to buy new valves. Because the connections are at the bottom you will need Angled Valves if your pipes come out of the wall or Straight Valves if your pipes come up from the floor.
Is the Borda radiator heavy to install?
Yes column radiators are made of solid steel and can be heavy. It is best to hang them on a solid brick wall. If you have a hollow wall you must find the wooden studs inside the wall to screw the brackets into for safety.
How do I clean between the columns?
Cleaning is very simple. Dust can settle in the gaps between the tubes. You can use a long radiator brush or a fluffy duster to slide between the columns and wipe away the dust. You do not need any expensive cleaning sprays.
Does it come with a warranty or guarantee?
Yes when you buy from Budget Radiators you get a 10 year guarantee. This means we promise the product is built to last and if there is a manufacturing problem with the steel or paint we will help you fix it.
How do I know what size Borda radiator I need?
You can use our free BTU Calculator on the website. You just type in the measurements of your room and it tells you how much heat you need. Then you pick the Borda radiator that matches that number.
Can I put this radiator in my bathroom?
Yes you can put it in a bathroom but make sure there is good ventilation so the steam goes away. A vertical radiator is great for bathrooms because it can warm up your towels while heating the room at the same time.
What are radiator feet and do I need them?
Radiator feet are support legs that sit on the floor. You do not always need them but they are very helpful if your wall is not very strong. The feet take the weight of the radiator so it does not pull on the wall brackets.
Does the Borda work with my central heating system?
Yes it works perfectly with standard UK central heating systems. You just connect it to your pipes like any other radiator. It fills with hot water from your boiler to heat up the steel columns.
Why is Anthracite such a popular colour?
Anthracite is a dark grey colour that looks very modern and hides dust better than white. It is popular because it makes the radiator look like a piece of expensive furniture rather than just a boring white heater.
Does the radiator come with wall brackets?
Yes the box includes the wall brackets you need to hang it up. It also comes with a little air vent and a plug. You only need to buy the valves separately because everyone needs different types for their pipes.
Is steel better than iron for radiators?
Steel is great because it heats up faster than heavy iron. This means when you turn your heating on your room gets warm quicker. Steel is also lighter which makes it easier for your plumber to carry and install.
Can I paint the radiator myself later?
We do not recommend painting it yourself. The Borda comes with a special powder coating that is baked on to be tough and smooth. Painting over it with normal paint might look messy and could peel off when the radiator gets hot.
How much space does it save compared to a panel radiator?
It saves a lot of horizontal wall space. A normal panel radiator might take up the whole wall under a window. The Borda only takes up a thin vertical strip so you can put a sofa or bookshelf in the empty space.
What happens if air gets trapped inside?
If air gets trapped the top of the radiator might feel cold. This is normal for all radiators. You just use a radiator key to open the little vent at the top and let the air hiss out until water comes. This is called bleeding.
