Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Borda vertical column radiator?
The Borda is a tall and narrow heater made of steel tubes standing upright. It is designed to save floor space while making your room look modern and stylish. It works just like a normal radiator but looks much better.
What makes the Borda Designer Towel Radiator different from normal radiators?
The Borda is unique because it combines high style with strong heating power. Unlike standard white panel radiators that can look boring, the Borda uses a modern vertical flat panel design. This makes your bathroom look like a luxury hotel while keeping it very warm. It is built to hold towels and heat the room at the same time.
Why should I choose a vertical radiator over a normal one?
You should choose a vertical radiator if you have limited wall space. Because it stands up tall like a tower it fits on narrow walls where a wide horizontal radiator would not fit. It is perfect for making more room for furniture.
Will this vertical radiator heat my whole bathroom or just my towels?
This radiator is powerful enough to heat your entire bathroom. The Borda range has a high BTU output, which means it releases a lot of heat. While ladder rails often just warm towels, the Borda acts as a main heat source to keep the air temperature comfortable, even in winter.
Does the Borda radiator give out enough heat?
Yes it gives out a lot of heat. The steel columns have a large surface area which helps warm up the air in your room very quickly. We use a measurement called BTU to show how powerful it is so you can be sure you will be warm.
What colors and finishes does the Borda radiator come in?
The Borda is available in two popular finishes. You can choose Textured Anthracite for a modern, dark grey look that hides fingerprints well. Alternatively, you can choose Textured White for a clean, classic appearance that matches standard bathroom sinks and toilets. Both finishes are tough and easy to clean.
Do I need to buy special valves for this radiator?
Yes, radiator valves are not included in the box. You need to buy a pair of valves separately. If your pipes come out of the floor, you usually need straight valves. If your pipes come out of the wall, you need angled valves. We recommend choosing valves that match the color of your radiator for the best look.
What is the difference between 2 column and 3 column models?
The difference is the thickness. A 2 column radiator has two rows of tubes and is slimmer so it sticks out less from the wall. A 3 column radiator has three rows of tubes which makes it deeper and more powerful so it heats larger rooms better.
Can I install the Borda radiator on a dual fuel system?
Yes, the Borda is compatible with dual fuel setups. This means you can connect it to your central heating for winter use and add an electric heating element for summer use. This allows you to dry your towels in warm months without turning on the heating for the whole house.
What colours does the Borda radiator come in?
You can buy the Borda in several amazing finishes. The most popular are White for a clean look Anthracite which is a cool dark grey and Black for a bold modern style. These colours help the radiator match your room decoration.
Why should I choose a vertical radiator instead of a horizontal one?
Vertical radiators like the Borda are excellent space savers. Because they are tall (1800mm) and narrow, they fit on small strips of wall where a wide horizontal radiator would not fit. This frees up floor space for other things like storage cabinets or a larger shower.
Will this radiator fit in my small kitchen?
Yes it is perfect for kitchens. Kitchens often have cupboards taking up all the wall space. The Borda is narrow enough to fit on the small strip of wall behind a door or next to the fridge to keep your kitchen cozy without getting in the way.
Do I need to buy special valves for this radiator?
Yes you usually need to buy new valves. Because the connections are at the bottom you will need Angled Valves if your pipes come out of the wall or Straight Valves if your pipes come up from the floor.
How do I know which width size to pick for my room?
The Borda comes in three widths: 440mm, 540mm, and 640mm. To pick the right one, use our BTU Calculator to see how much heat your room needs. If you have a larger family bathroom, the 640mm wide model gives the most heat and towel space. For small ensuites, the 440mm model is perfect.
Is the Borda radiator heavy to install?
Yes column radiators are made of solid steel and can be heavy. It is best to hang them on a solid brick wall. If you have a hollow wall you must find the wooden studs inside the wall to screw the brackets into for safety.
Is the textured surface of the radiator hard to clean?
No, cleaning is very simple. The textured finish on the Anthracite and White models is designed to be durable. You do not need harsh chemicals. Simply wipe it down with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. If it needs a deeper clean, a damp cloth with warm water is all you need.
How do I clean between the columns?
Cleaning is very simple. Dust can settle in the gaps between the tubes. You can use a long radiator brush or a fluffy duster to slide between the columns and wipe away the dust. You do not need any expensive cleaning sprays.
What is the guarantee on Borda radiators?
We offer a 10 Year Guarantee on all Borda radiators. This covers you against manufacturing defects and rust leaks. We use high quality mild steel to ensure the product lasts a long time, giving you peace of mind for a decade.
Does it come with a warranty or guarantee?
Yes when you buy from Budget Radiators you get a 10 year guarantee. This means we promise the product is built to last and if there is a manufacturing problem with the steel or paint we will help you fix it.
Does the radiator stick out far from the wall?
The Borda has a slim profile. The radiator itself is 80mm deep. When installed, it sits fairly close to the wall, which helps maximize space in your bathroom. This is much better than bulky old radiators that can get in the way of walking past.
How do I know what size Borda radiator I need?
You can use our free BTU Calculator on the website. You just type in the measurements of your room and it tells you how much heat you need. Then you pick the Borda radiator that matches that number.
Is this radiator made of aluminium or steel?
The Borda is made from high quality Mild Steel. Steel is very strong and retains heat well, meaning it stays warm for a while even after you turn off your central heating. This helps keep your towels dry and warm for longer.
Can I put this radiator in a room other than the bathroom?
Absolutely. While it is designed as a towel radiator, the sleek vertical look fits well in kitchens and hallways too. Many people use the Borda in modern kitchens because you can hang tea towels on it and it looks like a piece of modern decor.
Can I put this radiator in my bathroom?
Yes you can put it in a bathroom but make sure there is good ventilation so the steam goes away. A vertical radiator is great for bathrooms because it can warm up your towels while heating the room at the same time.
My radiator is cold at the top but hot at the bottom. What is wrong?
This is a common problem caused by trapped air. It does not mean the radiator is broken. You simply need to bleed the radiator. Use a radiator key to slightly open the small valve at the top until you hear air hissing out. Once water appears, close it tight, and the heat will spread evenly again.
What are radiator feet and do I need them?
Radiator feet are support legs that sit on the floor. You do not always need them but they are very helpful if your wall is not very strong. The feet take the weight of the radiator so it does not pull on the wall brackets.
Does the Borda work with my central heating system?
Yes it works perfectly with standard UK central heating systems. You just connect it to your pipes like any other radiator. It fills with hot water from your boiler to heat up the steel columns.
Is the Borda radiator heavy to lift and install?
Yes, because it is made of solid mild steel and is 1800mm tall, it is quite heavy. We strongly recommend that two people lift it during installation. You must also ensure your wall is strong enough to hold the weight. If you have hollow walls, ask your installer about extra support.
Does paint finish affect the heat output compared to chrome?
Yes, painted finishes like our Textured Anthracite and White actually give out more heat than chrome finishes. Chrome plating acts like a mirror and traps some heat inside. By choosing a painted Borda radiator, you get around 20 percent more heat output than a similar chrome version.
Why is Anthracite such a popular colour?
Anthracite is a dark grey colour that looks very modern and hides dust better than white. It is popular because it makes the radiator look like a piece of expensive furniture rather than just a boring white heater.
Does the radiator come with wall brackets?
Yes the box includes the wall brackets you need to hang it up. It also comes with a little air vent and a plug. You only need to buy the valves separately because everyone needs different types for their pipes.
What happens if I order the wrong size for my pipework?
Pipe centers are important. The pipe centers for the Borda are approximately the width of the radiator plus the valves. If your pipes are already laid in concrete and do not match, you might need a plumber to adjust them. Always check the technical drawing on the product page before you buy.
Does the radiator come with wall brackets?
Yes, every Borda radiator comes with a full wall fixing kit. This includes the brackets, screws, and plugs needed to mount it securely to the wall. You only need to provide the valves and the tools for installation.
Is steel better than iron for radiators?
Steel is great because it heats up faster than heavy iron. This means when you turn your heating on your room gets warm quicker. Steel is also lighter which makes it easier for your plumber to carry and install.
Can I paint the radiator myself later?
We do not recommend painting it yourself. The Borda comes with a special powder coating that is baked on to be tough and smooth. Painting over it with normal paint might look messy and could peel off when the radiator gets hot.
How fast can I get this radiator delivered?
We offer fast delivery to Mainland UK addresses. Since these items are in stock, they are usually dispatched quickly. If you live in the Scottish Highlands or an island, please contact us first as delivery might take a little longer.
How much space does it save compared to a panel radiator?
It saves a lot of horizontal wall space. A normal panel radiator might take up the whole wall under a window. The Borda only takes up a thin vertical strip so you can put a sofa or bookshelf in the empty space.
Is this radiator safe for households with children?
Like all central heating radiators, the surface gets very hot when the heating is on high. Because the Borda has a flat panel, there are no sharp edges, which is safer. However, we always advise supervising young children near hot radiators or turning the temperature down slightly.
What happens if air gets trapped inside?
If air gets trapped the top of the radiator might feel cold. This is normal for all radiators. You just use a radiator key to open the little vent at the top and let the air hiss out until water comes. This is called bleeding.
Will this radiator help prevent mold in my bathroom?
Yes. Mold grows in damp, cold rooms. Because the Borda has a high heat output, it warms the air and dries out moisture on surfaces and towels quickly. Keeping your bathroom warm and dry is the best way to stop mold from growing on your tiles and ceiling.
