Frequently Asked Questions
What type of heating technology does The Argyll Electric use: Dry or Liquid-Filled?
The Argyll Electric is a Liquid-Filled towel rail. Unlike "dry" wire systems, it comes pre-filled with a specific mixture of water and Glycol (thermal fluid). This fluid solves the problem of corrosion and freezing, while also ensuring even heat distribution across the rail. Because it is pre-filled and sealed at the factory, you do not need to fill it on-site, but you must handle it carefully during installation to ensure the air gap remains at the top for expansion.
How do I control the temperature on The Argyll Electric since there are no buttons on the element?
The Argyll utilizes a "Single Heat" entry-level element with a fixed internal thermostat. It is designed to self-regulate the internal liquid temperature to approximately 65
Is The Argyll Electric suitable for installation in Bathroom Zone 1 (above a bath)?
Yes, The Argyll Electric element is rated IP67. Technically, this is a very high ingress protection rating (submersible), making it perfectly safe for Zone 1 and Zone 2 bathroom areas. However, while the element is waterproof, the connection to the mains electricity must be made safely. The cable must be hard-wired into a fused spur located outside of Zone 1 (usually 0.6m away from the water source) or via a suitable IP-rated connection box, in accordance with BS 7671 Wiring Regulations.
Can the Reina Sesia be converted to a dual fuel towel rail for summer use?
Yes the Reina Sesia is fully compatible with dual fuel installations. To achieve this you need to install a T-piece adapter on one of the bottom inlets along with an electric heating element and your central heating valve. However due to the tight 100mm pipe centers fitting a standard T-piece and valve side by side can be spatially challenging. It is often technically better to use a dedicated Dual Fuel Valve or ensure you have sufficient vertical clearance below the rail.
Can I rotate The Argyll Electric rail to have the element on the left side?
The Argyll Electric typically comes with the element pre-fitted on the right-hand side. Because the rail contains a liquid and an expansion gap, simply flipping the radiator upside down is not recommended as it puts the element at the top (where the air gap is), which can cause the element to burn out. If you strictly require a left-hand element, you must contact the supplier before ordering to see if a specific left-hand modification is possible, otherwise, you must plan your wiring for a right-hand connection.
What type of radiator valves do I need for the Reina Sesia installation?
The Reina Sesia utilizes standard 1/2 inch BSP connections located at the bottom of the vertical bars. The type of valve depends on your pipework. If your pipes emerge from the wall you will need Angled or Corner Valves. If your pipes rise from the floor you will need Straight Valves. Given the offset design using Corner Valves is often the best technical solution for wall fed pipes as they align the valve heads neatly underneath the rail without protruding into the floor space.
What is the warranty coverage for the distinct parts of The Argyll Electric?
The warranty is split into two parts: The Mild Steel Radiator Body typically carries a 5-Year (or sometimes 10-Year) guarantee against leaking or rusting (provided the finish is not damaged). However, the Electric Element is an electrical component and carries a standard 2-Year Guarantee. If the element fails after 3 years, you can solve the problem by unscrewing and replacing just the element without removing the entire radiator from the wall, provided the standard 1/2" BSP thread is used.
Does The Argyll Electric require bleeding like a central heating radiator?
No, absolutely not. You must never open the bleeding plug on a pre-filled electric rail. The rail is professionally sealed with the correct ratio of fluid and inhibitor. Opening the bleed valve will let the essential air gap escape or leak thermal fluid, destroying the pressure balance. If the top rail feels cooler than the bottom, this is normal (due to the air gap) and not a sign that it needs bleeding.
Is the Reina Sesia suitable for installation on stud partition walls?
The Reina Sesia is manufactured from high quality mild steel and can be heavy when filled with water and loaded with wet towels. Because the design is cantilevered supported on one side the torque load on the wall brackets is higher than on a standard four point ladder rail. You must ensure the wall brackets are anchored into solid masonry or structural timber studs. Do not rely solely on plasterboard fixings as the weight could pull them loose over time.
