Frequently Asked Questions (10)

What exactly is included in the Kingston Angled TRV Set?
The set is a complete solution for one radiator. It includes one thermostatic radiator valve TRV head and body, which allows you to set and control the room temperature, and one matching lockshield valve, used to balance the system's flow. Both components feature the premium antique brass finish to ensure a unified look across your installation.
Why should I choose an Angled valve over a Straight or Corner valve?
Valve selection depends entirely on your pipework. Angled valves are the industry standard when your heating pipes emerge from the floor and connect to the side of the radiator, or if pipes come from the wall and need a 90 degree turn to enter the radiator. If your pipes come directly out of the wall and meet the radiator horizontally without a turn, you might require Corner valves instead.
Is the Antique Brass finish durable enough for high-moisture areas?
Yes. The Kingston range features a high-quality electroplated antique brass finish designed to withstand the heat cycles of a radiator and the ambient humidity of a home. While we recommend keeping them dry from direct splashes, the coating is robust and designed to maintain its vintage luster for years without peeling or significant tarnishing.
How does the thermostatic element in these radiator valves save me money?
Traditional manual valves are either on or off. These thermostatic radiator valves TRVs contain a liquid-filled sensor that detects the ambient air temperature. Once the room reaches your desired setting, the valve automatically throttles the hot water flow. This prevents overheating and reduces the workload on your boiler, leading to noticeable savings on your monthly energy bills.
Can I install the Kingston TRV on any type of radiator?
These valves are universal and feature standard 15mm compression fittings. They are ideal for designer column radiators, traditional cast iron styles, and standard compact steel panels. As long as your pipework is 15mm the UK standard, these valves will fit perfectly.
Do I need to buy a separate pipe sleeve kit for this set?
While not strictly required for the valve to function, a matching Antique Brass Pipe Sleeve kit is highly recommended for a professional finish. The sleeve covers the bare copper pipe leading from the floor or wall to the valve, ensuring the entire visible assembly matches the antique brass aesthetic.
Is a 10-year guarantee standard for radiator valves?
A 10-year guarantee is significantly higher than the industry average for valves, which typically ranges from 1 to 5 years. This extended warranty from Supplies4Heat reflects the superior build quality and internal components of the Kingston range, protecting you against manufacturing defects or premature mechanical failure.
How do I balance my radiator using the lockshield valve provided?
The lockshield valve the one without the numbered dial is used to restrict the flow of water leaving the radiator. By adjusting this with a hex key or pliers, you ensure that the radiators closest to the boiler do not steal all the heat, allowing the radiators further away to get equally hot. Once set during installation, the lockshield is usually left alone.
Can the Kingston TRV head be installed on either side of the radiator?
Most modern TRVs, including the Kingston set, are bi directional, meaning they can be fitted on either the flow or the return pipe. However, for the best performance and to avoid water hammer vibrating noises, it is best practice to identify the flow pipe and install the TRV head there.
What is the maintenance requirement for these antique brass valves?
Maintenance is minimal. We recommend turning the TRV head to the maximum open position during the summer months when the heating is off. This prevents the internal pin from sticking. To clean the exterior, simply wipe with a soft, dry cloth; avoid using abrasive chemicals or metal polishes, as these can strip the antique brass plating.
