Description

Valves Radiators - Traditional Thermostatic Radiator Valves - Traditional TRVS - Reducers and Decorators' Caps Radiators

15mm x 8mm Micro-bore Reducer - Radiator Valves Adapter Pair

Ensure a perfect connection between your central heating system and your new radiators with our 15mm x 8mm Micro-bore Reducer. Most modern radiator valves are manufactured with a standard 15mm compression inlet, but many UK homes utilize 8mm micro-bore copper pipework. This simple, high-quality brass adapter allows you to bridge that gap seamlessly, ensuring a professional and watertight installation without the need for complex plumbing alterations.

Essential Features of the Micro-bore Reducer

  • Precision Engineered Fit: Specifically designed to sit inside a 15mm valve compression fitting and reduce the aperture to accept 8mm micro-bore pipe.
  • Solid Brass Construction: Manufactured from high-grade brass for maximum durability and resistance to corrosion within the heating system.
  • Leak-Free Reliability: Provides a secure compression seal when used with standard valve nuts and olives.
  • Universal Compatibility: Works with almost any 15mm thermostatic or manual radiator valve on the market.
  • Polished Brass Finish: A clean, professional look that remains hidden once installed inside the valve nut.

The Professional Solution at a Low Price

Upgrading your home's heating shouldn't be a headache. If you have thin 8mm pipes, you don't need to hunt for specialized valves; simply use these adapters to convert any of our luxury valves to fit your system. We offer these essential components at a low price to ensure your project stays on budget. This product is sold as a pair, providing enough reducers for both the flow and return valves of a single radiator.

Frequently Asked Questions (10)

What is Micro bore pipework, and why do I need a reducer for it?
Micro bore pipework refers to small diameter copper pipes typically 8mm or 10mm used in some central heating systems to save space and installation time. Because standard modern radiator valves are built to fit 15mm pipes, you need a reducer to fill the gap between the 15mm valve opening and your 8mm pipe to create a watertight seal.
How exactly does this reducer fit into the radiator valve?
The installation is very straightforward. You remove the 15mm nut and olive from your new radiator valve. You then slide the 15mm nut onto your 8mm pipe, followed by the 8mm olive, and then the 15mm x 8mm reducer. The reducer sits inside the 15mm valve inlet, and when you tighten the nut, it compresses the olive onto the 8mm pipe for a secure fit.
Is this reducer sold as a single item or as a pair?
This product is supplied as a pair. Since every radiator requires two valves one for the water coming in and one for the water going out, you will receive two reducers one for the thermostatic manual valve and one for the lockshield valve.
Can I use these reducers with plastic HEP2O Speedfit pipework?
These reducers are primarily designed for use with copper micro bore pipe. If you are using 8mm plastic pipework, you must ensure you use the correct internal pipe stiffener insert provided by the pipe manufacturer. However, we always recommend consulting a professional plumber when mixing compression fittings with plastic pipework.
Will using a reducer affect the heat output of my radiator?
No. The heat output BTU of your radiator is determined by the size of the radiator and the temperature of the water. While 8mm pipe carries less water volume than 15mm pipe, your system is already designed for this. The reducer simply ensures a mechanical connection and does not further restrict the flow beyond what the 8mm pipe already does.
Do I need to use PTFE tape or jointing compound with these reducers?
If the pipe is clean and the fitting is tightened correctly, the compression olive should create a watertight seal without the need for tape. However, many plumbers use a small amount of jointing compound like Boss White on the olive to ensure a perfect seal, especially on older pipework that might be slightly scratched.
Is a 10 year guarantee common for such a small plumbing component?
While most small brass fittings carry a standard 1 year warranty, our 15mm x 8mm micro bore reducers come with a 10 year manufacturer guarantee. This reflects the high grade brass construction and the reliability of the West Radiators brand, ensuring the fitting won't fail or corrode prematurely.
Can I use these reducers with 10mm pipework?
No. This specific model is strictly for 8mm pipe. If you have 10mm pipework, you will need a 15mm x 10mm reducer. Using an 8mm reducer on a 10mm pipe is impossible as the pipe will not fit through the center, and using it on a larger pipe would result in a major leak.
Are these reducers visible once the radiator valves are installed?
No. Once the installation is complete, the reducer is entirely housed within the compression nut of the radiator valve. From the outside, you will only see the valve and your 8mm pipe. For a more decorative look, you might consider using a 15mm pipe sleeve kit to cover the thin 8mm pipe.
Why is there a separate delivery charge for this item?
Because this is a low cost, small item, shipping it individually via courier incurs a cost. However, we offer NOT REQUIRED as a delivery option if you are purchasing these alongside any radiator or valve set. In that case, we include them in your main delivery for free, helping you keep your project costs at a low price.
