Frequently Asked Questions (10)

Is the Pewter Finish on the Admiral valve a painted surface or a metallic plating?
The Admiral Pewter finish is a high quality electroplated metallic coating. Unlike paint, which can chip or peel under high heat, electroplating creates a molecular bond with the brass body of the valve. This ensures the finish remains durable even through thousands of heating cycles, maintaining its rustic, textured look over time.
I have 22mm pipes; will these valves fit without extra plumbing work?
Yes. One of the standout features of the Admiral range is its versatility. While most radiator valves only support 15mm pipes, you can select the 22mm Compression Connectors option. This allows the valve to connect directly to 22mm copper pipework, which is often found in the primary circuits of older British homes.
What is the benefit of the Admirals High Flow Rate design?
Many traditional style valves have very narrow internal pathways that restrict water flow. If you have a gravity fed system where water moves by thermal convection rather than a high pressure pump, restricted valves can cause your radiators to stay lukewarm. The Admiral is engineered with wider internal bores to ensure maximum hot water flow, making it ideal for low pressure systems.
How does the Frost Protection feature on these radiator valves work?
The Admiral TRV includes a frost setting usually indicated by a * symbol. In this mode, the valve will stay closed unless the room temperature drops below approximately 7
Why would I need a Decorators Shut Off Cap for this valve set?
Because of the frost protection feature, a TRV head might not completely seal the valve if the room is very cold. If you need to remove the radiator for painting or cleaning, a Decorators Cap is a solid brass or plastic screw on lid that manually forces the internal pin down, ensuring a 100% watertight seal so you can remove the radiator safely without draining the whole system.
Can I install the Admiral valve on a modern designer radiator, or is it only for cast iron?
While the Admiral is designed with a traditional look to match cast iron radiators, it uses standard 1/2" BSP connections. This means it can be fitted to any modern designer radiator or standard towel rail that uses 1/2" tappings, providing a unique industrial or vintage contrast to modern hardware.
Is the Admiral TRV bi directional?
Yes. A bi directional valve can be installed on either the pipe where hot water enters the radiator the flow or the pipe where it leaves the return. This is a huge advantage for installers because it eliminates valve chatter or knocking noises that can occur if a single direction valve is accidentally installed on the wrong side.
What is included in the Matching Pipe Sleeve Kit option?
The sleeve kit includes two vertical shrouds tubes and two floor roses circular plates in the same pewter finish as the valves. These are designed to slide over your bare copper or plastic heating pipes. It creates a seamless look where the pewter finish appears to go all the way into the floor, hiding the copper pipe completely.
How do I calibrate the temperature settings on the Admiral TRV?
The head of the valve features a numbered dial typically 1 to 5. Each number corresponds to an approximate room temperature e.g., 3 is usually around 20
Does the 10 year guarantee cover the pewter finish?
The 10 year guarantee primarily covers the mechanical functionality and the watertight integrity of the valve. The decorative pewter finish is highly durable, but its longevity depends on proper care avoiding harsh chemicals. If the finish fails prematurely due to a manufacturing defect like bubbling or flaking, it would typically be covered under the warranty terms.
