Frequently Asked Questions (8)

What makes the Abbey Old English Brass Radiator Valves suitable for traditional cast iron radiators?
These valves are specifically designed with a period aesthetic that matches the weight and scale of cast iron units. The Old English Brass finish mimics the natural patina of aged brass, ensuring that the valves do not look out of place against ornate, traditional radiator designs.
Can these thermostatic radiator valves be installed on both 15mm and 22mm pipework?
Yes. While the standard set is designed for 15mm pipework, we offer specific Abbey 22mm compression adaptors. This makes the Abbey range incredibly versatile for older UK properties that may still utilize larger diameter copper piping in their central heating circuits.
What is the difference between a thermostatic valve and a manual valve?
A manual valve acts like a tap it is either on, off, or somewhere in between, regardless of room temperature. The Abbey Thermostatic Radiator Valves TRVs have an internal sensor that monitors the air temperature. Once the room reaches your desired setting, the valve automatically throttles the hot water flow, saving energy and maintaining comfort.
How does the Old English Brass finish hold up over time compared to standard brass?
The Old English Brass is a treated finish designed to maintain its antique appearance without the need for constant polishing. It is more resistant to the dulling effects of heat and humidity than raw brass, ensuring your radiator valves look premium for years.
Do I need a matching pipe sleeve kit for these valves?
While not strictly necessary for functionality, a matching pipe sleeve kit is highly recommended for a professional finish. It covers the standard copper piping coming from your floor or wall, ensuring the entire connection matches the Old English Brass of the valve.
Are these valves bi-directional?
It is always best practice to install the thermostatic head on the flow side of the radiator. However, modern Abbey TRVs are engineered to minimize water hammer noise. If you are unsure of the flow direction, consulting a professional plumber during installation is advised to ensure silent operation.
What is included in the Abbey Thermostatic Valve Set?
The set includes one thermostatic valve head and body for the flow side and one matching lockshield valve for the return side. This provides a complete solution for balancing your radiator and controlling the temperature.
What does the 10-year guarantee cover?
The 10-year guarantee covers any manufacturing defects in the valve body or the thermostatic mechanism. This long-term warranty reflects the high build quality and the solid brass construction of the Abbey range, providing peace of mind for your home investment.
